Race Recap: Karting Challenge Presented by Hoosier Racing Tire Round 8, Sept. 12
A total 84 competitors entered Round 8 of the 10-round GoPro Motorplex Karting Challenge Presented by Hoosier Racing Tire club series today. A brief rainstorm moved through the area early, but allowed for a mostly dry day for racing under overcast skies and cool temperatures in the afternoon.
In the Kid Kart division 10-lap final race, Jett Miller was on a rail, pacing the field by over 17 seconds. Behind him, the battle for second was on between Sam Corry and Peyton Morrison. Miller won the race followed by a side-by-side finish with Corry in second and Morrison in third.
Rental Karts - Light & Heavy Division:
In the Rental Kart division, both the Light and Heavy divisions compete at the same time, but are scored separately per their divisions. The Rental Division of the Karting Challenge ran three different track layouts this morning. In the final 12-lap race, Phillip Eastmead scored the win in the Light Division and Joseph Henning won the Heavy Division.
Briggs Cadet Division:
Final 1: There was a stout group of Briggs Cadet division drivers all closely battling for a win today. The first five laps of Final One showcased a different leader each lap. As the race settled out by the halfway point, Jadyn Daniels controlled the lead. However, Bree Miller overtook Daniels with just two laps remaining. Miller held off Daniels to score the win, followed by Daniels in second and Alex Delemo in third.
Final 2: Daniels was again the driver to beat, leading early in the race. But, with just two laps remaining, Delemo powered through the field to take the win from Daniels. Daniels settled for second, followed by William Robusto.

MotorsportReg.com Briggs Junior Division:
Final 1: Seth Gentry walked away with the win in Briggs Junior by over nine seconds on Cade Frazier. Frazier and Taylor Stanford had a tight race going for the majority of the 13 laps. When the checkered came out, Frazier earned the second spot, followed by Stanford in third.
Final 2: Gentry was on a rail again in the second final of the day, but this time it was a much closer race with Stanford right on his bumper waiting for a mistake to be made. Gentry proved flawless and crossed the line just 0.230 seconds over Stanford and Frazier rounded out the top-three.
Top-3 Champions of the Day: Seth Gentry, Taylor Stanford, Cade Frazier.
Hoosier Racing Tire Briggs Senior Division:
Final 1: Reinaldo Moloon broke away from the 12-kart field of Briggs Senior drivers early on in the race. However, the race behind him was incredibly intense between Billy Duff, Justin Kraft and Ryan Shattuck for the second position. Moloon took the win. Shattuck made some power moves to the front to score the second position, followed by Kraft in third.
Final 2: Moloon paced the field early, leading all but the last two laps. When Moloon got loose in the Hoosier Hairpin, it allowed Justin Kraft to sneak by and capitalize on Moloon’s mistake to score the win. Kraft took the win ahead of Moloon and Shattuck. However, Moloon suffered a disqualification, giving second place to Shattuck and third to Duff.

HMS Motorsports IAME Mini Swift Division:
Final 1: The 14-kart field of IAME Mini Swift drivers always promises some of the best racing of the afternoon. Dante Tekampe set the pace from the top position trailed closely by Ty Gibbs. The battle for third was also a tight one between Brent Crews and Gray Leadbetter. On the final lap, Gibbs maneuvered around Tekampe for the win. Tekampe settled for second and Crews for third.
Final 2: Tekampe got away from the field early, improving to over a second lead on the field. Behind him, the four-kart race for the second spot certainly escalated quickly with aggressive position changes by the halfway point. Gibbs and Caleb Bacon raced their way to the front of the group to finish second and third, respectively.

The Tire Depot IAME Junior Division:
Final 1: Two drivers showed the way with Blake Hunt setting the pace and Lance Fenderson right on his bumper. With just three laps to go, Hunt and Fenderson began swapping back and forth for the lead. Hunt crossed the stripe in first, just 0.265 seconds over Fenderson. Alex Verhagan rounded out the top-three.
Final 2: Fenderson was on a mission to redeem himself in Final Two, leading almost all of the laps. With three laps to go, Hunt led briefly after a pass in Turn Four. Fenderson fought back to earn the win, followed by Verhagen and Ashlyn Breuer.

The Tire Depot IAME Senior Division:
Final 1: Current points leader, Justin Neu led over Dusty Davis and Nick Losito until lap eight when Davis overtook Neu in Turn One. However, Neu didn’t allow that for long, passing Davis nearly right back. Neu held on for the win ahead of Davis and Losito.
Final 2: Davis shot out to the early lead, but by the third lap, Neu was back out in front after a pass on Davis in Turn One. Finding his pace again late in the race, Davis overtook Neu in Turn One with five laps to go. This time it stuck and Davis earned the win ahead of Neu and Losito.
Top-3 Champions of the Day: Dusty Davis, Justin Neu, Nick Losito
Turn 4 Pizza IAME Masters Division:
Final 1: It was great to see a large turnout for the IAME Masters division today with nine competitors. Again this round, they were all chasing current points leader Nick Tucker’s dominating streak. Tucker scored the win, followed by Brian Spek and John Wehrheim.
Final 2: Scoring back-to-back wins, Tucker notched another win in Final Two ahead of Todd Shambo and Spek.

Race City Golf Cars Yamaha Junior Division:
Final 1: Emory Lyda set the pace in Final One after qualifying on the pole with a 54.371-second lap. However, Austin Schulz was tracing his every move from the second position. With five laps to go, Schulz made his move for the lead with a drag race down the front stretch. Lyda tucked right back onto Schulz’s bumper. With two laps to go, Lyda took advantage of a strong run off the last turn and passed Schulz back by the start-finish line. The battle between Lyda and Schulz really heated up, allowing Luke Wallace and Ty Gibbs to close in on the leaders, making it a four-kart battle for the win. Lyda muscled out the win, followed by Wallace and Schulz.
Final 2: Bumper-to-bumper, Gibbs and Schulz, broke away from the field, creating their own race. On the last lap, Schulz gave it everything he had, but couldn’t get enough to complete the pass on Gibbs. Gibbs crossed the line ahead of Schulz and Lyda in third.
Top-3 Champions of the Day: Emory Lyda, Ty Gibbs, Austin Schulz
Race City Golf Cars Yamaha Senior Division:
Final 1: Keith Carlson was the driver to beat, pacing the field by over five seconds. Abby Sinon and Randy D’Amato rounded out the top-three.
Final 2: From the pole position, Carlson scored the win over Randy D’Amato and Missy Tate.
