Race Recap: Karting Challenge Presented by Hoosier Racing Tire Round 6, July 11
A total 81 competitors entered Round 6 of the GoPro Motorplex Karting Challenge Presented by Hoosier Racing Tire club series on a hot, 90+ degree day today.
In the Kid Kart division 10-lap final race, Jett Miller controlled the top position for the first half of the race. Miller captured the win, followed by Sam Corry and Mason Cantrell in third.
Rental Karts - Light & Heavy Division:
In the Rental Kart division 15-lap final, both the Light and Heavy divisions compete at the same time, but are scored separately per their divisions. The Rental Division of the Karting Challenge features a modified course layout for an added challenge for the drivers. Both divisions had a tight battle between the top-two drivers, swapping for position throughout the race. For a finish, it was Phillip Eastmead (Light) and Joseph Henning (Heavy) who mastered the new course to capture the win.
Briggs Cadet Division:
Final 1: Isabella Robusto set the pace in Final One with brother, William Robusto right on her back bumper every lap. The two drivers appeared to be working together to bump draft away from Alex Delemo in third place. The gloves came off with two laps to go, though. William Robusto made his pass for the lead on Isabella Robusto on the backstretch. William Robusto crossed the line in first, followed by Isabella Robusto and Delemo.
Final 2: The Robusto brother-sister duo were the drivers to beat again, running in the top-two positions. However, the front pack of six drivers were all within one second of each other. Isabella Robusto captured the win, followed by William Robusto and Delemo.

Final 1: The top-four drivers were battling hard for the last half of the 13-lap final with each driver swapping for position as well as for the lead. Cade Frazier was able to have control of the lead when it mattered at the drop of the checkered flag, followed by Seth Genty and Taylor Stanford.
Final 2: In Final Two, it was another close battle and clean race between the top-four drivers of Frazier, Brian Collins, Gentry and Stanford. Frazier scored his second win of the afternoon, followed by Collins in second and Stanford in third.

Hoosier Racing Tire Briggs Senior Division:
Final 1: After things settled out from a lap one pile-up, it left Ryan Shattuck out front with a huge lead over the field. Shattuck crossed the line with a 12.934-second lead over Phillip Eastmead and Billy Duff.
Final 2: Shattuck didn’t have quite as easy of a drive for the win, challenged early by Stephen Morsillo and Nick Tucker. On lap nine of thirteen, Tucker overtook Shattuck, but Shattuck tucked right in behind Tucker. With just one lap to go, the top-three drivers piled into the Hoosier Hairpin all battling for the same piece of real estate. Morsillo came out on top to earn the win, followed by Tucker and Shattuck.

HMS Motorsports IAME Mini Swift Division:
Final 1: In a large field of 14 IAME Mini Swift drivers, Rylee Engel and Gray Leadbetter were able to check out to over a second lead on William Robusto in third and the rest of the field. Just before halfway, Leadbetter made her move on Engel for the lead in turn four. However, just a lap later, Engel overtook Leadbetter and the two began to swap back and forth for the lead repeatedly. With a swift, last-lap pass in turn four, Engel captured the lead from Leadbetter for the last time to score the win. Leadbetter finished in second and Ty Gibbs in third.
Final 2: Dante Tekampe and Rylee Engel broke away from the field by over three seconds, but were within milliseconds of each other in the top-two spots. Tekampe led with Engel tracing his every move on his bumper. Engel patiently waited to make her move until the last lap. Engel scored the win, followed by Tekampe with a close second and Ty Gibbs in third.

The Tire Depot IAME Junior Division:
Final 1: As soon as the green flag dropped, the frontrunners in IAME Junior were up on the wheel. On lap two, Alex Verhagen moved from third to first with a power-move into the Hoosier Hairpin. By halfway, the top-five drivers were nearly all bumper-to-bumper. Lance Fenderson gave it his all to overtake Verhagen with a move to the inside on the final turn coming to the checkered flag. Fenderson got the position and crossed the line just 0.130 seconds in front of Verhagen in second and Blake Hunt in third.
Final 2: It quickly became a two-kart race for the win between Lance Fenderson and Blake Hunt in Final Two. After just two laps, Hunt overtook Fenderson in turn one for the lead. However, Fenderson wasn’t going to back down easily, remaining closed tight onto Hunt’s bumper. Fenderson maneuvered back around Hunt and remained out front until the checkered flag dropped. Hunt settled for second, followed by Verhagen.

The Tire Depot IAME Senior Division:
Final 1: Following a strong lap in qualifying, Ben Stewart controlled the race from flag to flag. By halfway, Nick Losito was running the fastest laps of the race in the second position, catching Stewart ever so slightly. However, as laps wound down, Stewart continued to hit his marks to cushion the gap from his closest competition. When the checkered flag came out, Stewart crossed the line for the win with a 0.728-second lead over Losito in second and Justin Neu in third.
Final 2: It appeared that Stewart was once again the driver to beat in Final Two. However, Dusty Davis made a hard charge into the top spot in turn four to steal the lead away from Stewart. Davis had managed to put some distance between himself and Stewart, but with just two laps to go, Stewart had closed back to his bumper. Davis held him off to take the win, followed by Stewart and Neu.

Turn 4 Pizza IAME Masters Division:
Final 1: Nick Tucker paced the field from the drop of the green flag until the checkered came out. Tucker scored the win, followed by Steve Frank and Matt Giangrande.
Final 2: Nick Tucker scored his second win of the day, followed by Steve Frank and Matt Giangrande.

Race City Golf Cars Yamaha Junior Division:
Final 1: A tight race between Ty Gibbs and Emory Lyda for the top position allowed Luke Wallace to close onto their bumpers, making it a three-kart race for the win. Lyda looked inside of Gibbs in turn one on the last lap, but wasn’t quite able to complete the pass. Gibbs took the win, followed by Lyda and Wallace.
Final 2: Again, it was Gibbs and Lyda out front battling for the top spot in Final Two, trailed by Wallace in third. On the final lap, Lyda looked to the inside of Gibbs down the backstretch and into turn four for the top spot. Gibbs shut the door on Lyda, causing contact between the two drivers. The finishing order after penalties gave Wallace the win, followed by Zack Frank and Lyda.
Top-3 Champions of the Day: Luke Wallace, Ty Gibbs, Emory Lyda
Race City Golf Cars Yamaha Senior Division:
Final 1: Frontrunners, Mike Griffith and Missy Tate checked out from the field, trailed closest by Mark Gabriel in the third position. However, with just six laps left to go, all three drivers were bumper-to-bumper. Tate was the first to pop out of line to take a shot at the lead. She was successful with a turn one pass on Griffith. But, just a lap later Gabriel overtook Tate. Gabriel went on to win, followed by Tate and Griffith.
Final 2: Griffith reeled in David Lawrence’s large lead just after the halfway point. As laps wound down, Griffith made his move to overtake Lawrence. Then again with two laps to go, Lawrence looked to the inside of Griffith in turn four but wasn’t able to complete the pass, losing a great deal of ground.
Griffith went on to score the win, followed by Abby Sinon and Lawrence.
